THE MAGICAL REDEEMER'S FEAST! Hotel Al Ponte dei Sospiri

Hotel in Venice

The Feast of the Redeemer is one of the most important festivities for the inhabitants of Venice, both for the religious aspect and for the spectacular one.

The origins of this celebration date back to 1577 with the end of the terrible plague that decimated the population of the Serenissima. The Doge of Venice Alvise Mocenigo deliberated the construction of a votive temple to celebrate the end of the epidemic and still today, following the tradition, a floating bridge is set up to connect St Mark’s Square to the Giudecca Island and allow the procession to the Church of the Redeemer.

This feast is even more special thanks to the fantastic show that attracts thousands of visitors every year: at midnight the fireworks illuminate the lagoon at day, lights and colors are reflected on the many boats floating in St Mark’s basin and stand out on the buildings of the city, creating a magical and unique atmosphere of its kind.
