The 76 Venice CINEMA EXHIBITION will take place from 28 August to 07 September at LIDO DI VENEZIA.
An event that brings to itself the whole world:
THE MOST ANCIENT FESTIVAL IN THE HISTORY OF THE CINEMA
The first international Venice film art exhibition took place in August 1932,
on the terrace of the Hotel Excelsior at the Lido of Venice.
The highest national authorities participated giving their consent to
what is rightly considered the first international event of this kind.
The first film shown in the exhibition’s history, which appears on the screen at 9.15 pm on 6 August 1932,
was Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde of Rouben Mamoulian.
Already from the second edition, in August 1934, the so-called “competitions” were introduced,
in fact, the “Mussolini Cup” was established to reward the best foreign film and the best Italian film.
In 1935 the Film Festival was proclaimed ANNUAL EVENT and, in its fourth edition,
A real INTERNATIONAL JURY was established.
In 1937 the PALAZZO DEL CINEMA was inaugurated (which is still the venue of the Exhibition) and, from that year on, the exhibition opened its doors to international films, becoming a prestigious film event.
To open the RED CARPET of 2019, will be the “godmother of the exhibition” ALESSANDRA MASTRONARDI.
